They’re really having a pretty terrible year, aren’t they?
First MH370 disappears without a trace – still no idea what happened to it.
And today MH17 got shot down by a surface-to-air missile over Ukraine airspace. Initial reports are that pro-Russian separatists are responsible, but obviously that’s still under investigation as they’ve not taken responsibility. There’s also been numerous suggestions about this being the start of a new Cold War. Hurray for humanity?
Such a terrible tragedy. 295 fatalities – including 27 Australians. And apparently a number of the Dutch passengers on board were researchers heading to Australia for a HIV/AIDS conference. A horrible loss for the scientific community on top of it all.
Sadly I think this is the final straw for me with Malaysia Airlines. I think we can all accept that this was an act of terrorism – it wasn’t an accident. It is unlikely that this was in any way the fault of Malaysia Airlines, but I don’t think we can rule out Malaysia Airlines being specifically targeted. It’s a shame, because MH has such convenient flights out of Perth International, but sometimes you just have to make that call.
People wonder why I’m so cynical about humanity? Why I seem to dislike people so much? This is just another example.
My sympathies go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.
