Academic Shenanigans

Because I think that this article is something every academic (or potential academic) out there needs to read.

While it is a story about academic wankery between mathematicians, you don’t need to be a mathematician (or a scientist) to read it.

The article entitled “Manifold Destiny” gives a somewhat startling insight into the lengths some academics will go to in order to make a name for themselves and get promotion.

Events detailed in the article occurred over a decade ago now, but it would be naive to suggest things like this don’t occur anymore within academia. Perhaps not to the same extremes as in this article – but people backstabbing each other in the back over grant funding and paper authorship? Still very much a fact of life.
